Previously I wrote about the Simpler Divorce for people who do not want to hire attorneys or who cannot afford to hire attorneys. You can refer to it here and watch my video here. Today I want to delve into the simpler divorce process. I summarize this process in 5 steps.
Click the book an appointment button at the top of this website, email me at fwelsh@welshlawmediation.com, or call me at 832-263-1585 to schedule your mediation. Booking online is the easiest way and you see my actual schedule instantly. If you believe your issues are really complicated then I recommend a 6 or 8 hour mediation. If you only have a few issues to work through then a 4 hour mediation is recommended.
You will receive a confirmation for the mediation. This confirmation will include Zoom links (if by video) or address information (if in person). You will also receive an Inventory and Appraisement_fillable for each party to complete as well as things to consider if there are children.
You will both attend mediation. You can go to my mediation blog posts here and my video here to learn more about what happens in mediation. During this time each party will have the opportunity to speak directly with me. I will navigate between each of you to help you reach agreements.
I will draft a Mediated Settlement Agreement with your agreements. This agreement is binding upon each of you. As a result, when the divorce is filed with Court neither party can revoke the agreements made. This helps provide finality for all parties.
This step can actually be step 1 as well, you file for divorce. It really does not matter whether you file before mediation or after. Either way the Mediated Settlement Agreement controls the end result. If you have not filed already, I will provide you with resources to assist you in doing this. There you have it, the simpler divorce process.
