I’ve talked about it before, you have to make time for you, but today’s post is a bit different. Today’s post is going to talk about making sure that you find the right attorney for you. Just as not all doctors, teachers, trainers, etc. are created the same neither are attorneys. Some attorneys focus on just one area of law, some will handle nearly any type of case. Some attorneys are more emotional and hand holding, others are more blunt and get right to the point. This does not make any one attorney better than any other attorney, but it does factor into what type of attorney will be best for you.
If you are the type of person who doesn’t need hand holding and just wants information delivered to them then you need an attorney who can do that for you. If, however, you need more finesse, then you need to find that type of attorney. Often times people feel that once they meet with an attorney they need to hire that attorney and that simply is not the case.
So how can you find the right attorney? For starters, ask family and friends for recommendations. If your friends and family do not have recommendations for you then go online and search for attorneys in your area that practice the type of law you need assistance with. Next, take those recommendations (or search results) and research them online to see what people are saying about them. Some suggestions are google.com, AVVO.com, Yelp.com. All of these sites provide opportunities for reviewing attorneys. Lastly, visit the attorney’s website and read what the attorney says. How the attorney writes his/her website will tell you a lot about how they approach a case. If you feel comfortable with the attorney, then call and schedule an appointment. If after the appointment you feel comfortable with the attorney and the attorney believes he/she can help you, then hire that attorney, but if not, go to the next name on your list.
